Let’s go… 👇
This week I am reporting in from Austin, Texas.
I’ve flown out for a few days for a new Mastermind group I have joined in 2024.
Naturally, the first thing I wanted to do when I arrived was to go on a carnivorous pilgrimage to the city’s legendary BBQ joints.
First stop was Iron Works BBQ…
The Iron Works Sampler - Brisket, Sausage, Beef Rib, & Pecan Pie
The brisket was a masterpiece of meat.
So tender it practically melted on my tongue.
But what struck me more… was the work that went into it.
You see, the pitmasters work in teams, rotating 24/7.
They manage the heat, the wood, the smoke, and the time.
They toiled through the night while the rest of the world slept, tending to the meat with a mix of precision and intuition.
And it’s this extensive preparation most will never see.
The tireless attention to detail.
The quiet, persistent dedication.
That brisket didn't just happen; it was the result of relentless pursuit of excellence.
As I left Iron Works with a full belly and an inspired heart…
…the moral of the story became clear: for something to be truly extraordinary, you must be willing to put in the mundane, unglamorous efforts that no one sees.
This inspired me to talk about the costly mistake of having a 'leaky' bucket in your business.
This may be of interest if you know you are…
1. Relying too heavily on new leads
2. Ignoring a gold mine of existing leads
3. Neglecting follow-up systems
The reason this topic is so commonly misunderstood is that many business owners equate more leads to more revenue…
…but that's not always the case.
Once you really get good at converting your current leads…
…then you unlock huge potential for more appointments, sales, and ultimately more cash from what you already have.
Let's dive in…👇
The harsh truth is that if you're constantly hunting for new leads without properly nurturing your current ones…
…your business is just like a bucket with a hole – leaking valuable opportunities.
In order to tap into the wealth of your current lead pool, you first need to make sure you don’t make a few of the most common mistakes:
Mistake #1: Neglecting Email & SMS Follow-Ups
To leave leads without follow-up is to leave money on the table.
Mistake #2: Sending only sales-driven content
If all you send are offers and sales pitches, your leads will tune out.
Mistake #3: Lacking human touch
Automation is cool, but nothing beats a personal connection.
People often make these mistakes because they overvalue automation and undervalue personal interaction, resulting in lost conversion opportunities and leaving them frustrated with stagnant growth.
Here’s how we fix these 3 things..
i) We use Email & SMS as a minimum
The very first step to reviving your leads is establishing a solid email and SMS sequence.
Consistent communication across multiple channels keeps your leads warm and your business top-of-mind.
To be clear: it’s not about bombarding your leads…
…it's about being there so they think of you when they're ready to decide.
Frequent, value-added contact makes leads more likely to convert.
ii) We send weekly high-value nurture emails
The next step is to send weekly emails that genuinely provide value without the sales pressure.
Trust is built when you help without immediately asking for something in return.
Selling hard in every message pushes people away.
Share insights, stories, and tips related to your industry that can help your leads.
Value-driven nurture emails position you as a resource, not just a vendor.
iii) We get humans involved
And finally, ensure a team member is available to personally engage with your leads.
Personal engagement turns leads into relationships, which then can become sales.
Train team members to reach out, send a loom , text, reply, and even make calls.
Real conversations are what really influence decisions and ultimately close sales.
That’s all for this week - I hope you found it useful.
Take it easy,
Elliott ✌🏼
P.S. I share more stuff like this on LinkedIn.
