The One Thing by Gary Keller & Jay Papasan
I buy about 50 books a year.
I only read about 6 of them properly.
This has quickly turned into one of my favourites.
If you’re someone whos to-do list & responsibilities seem neverending & often overwhelming…
…then I’d highly recommend giving this read.
You can be successful with less discipline than you think.
Success is about doing the right thing, not about doing everything right.
It’s funny how in life sometimes you have to hear a message over & over again before it sinks in.
This is something that has taken me a loooong time to internalise.
Trust me… I’ve been great at working long hours on all sorts of stuff that needs doing…
…but now every single morning I prioritise the ‘right’ stuff.
I do this by dividing my calendar into 4 categories.
1) Building - time spent on the right stuff that builds the business.
2) Maintenance - time spent working in the business, looking after clients etc.
3) Gym - My daily movement break which resets & re-energises me for the afternoon.
4) Meetings - all bunched together between 3-6pm every day

Now… it’s all well & good having time blocked out to spend on the right stuff…
…but you also need to know what exactly the right stuff is.
So when it comes to growing your business & acquiring more customers…
…here are my thoughts on 5 things you should be clear on before you do.

You can’t steer the ship if you don’t know where it’s going. ⚓️
I’ve learnt the hard way that making decisions in business is extremely difficult when you’re not sure what the plan is.
And on the flipside how easy it is when you have total clarity.
This is especially important when it comes to ads.
Questions like:
How many leads do I need?
How much should I spend to acquire a customer?
How much should I spend on ads this month?
…become incredibly simple when you have a clear plan.
🔮 #2 Understanding of your 3 Holy Numbers
These are the 3 most important numbers when it comes to advertising.

The 3 Holy Numbers 👼🏿
Having an accurate view on these figures weekly will give you everything you need to drive your business forward.
Here’s how we calculate them… 👇
Average Order Value (AOV) = Total Revenue / Number of Orders
Lifetime Value (LTV) = (Average Order Value x Average Order Frequency) x Average Customer Lifespan
Cost Per Acquisition (CPA) = Total Ad Spend / Number of Sales
🔮 #3 A Primary ICP
If you try to appeal to everyone, you will appeal to no one.
“But my business can serve all sorts of people…. old, young, techies, fashionistas, foodies…”
Great… pick the biggest one that your product/service helps the most.

The majority of ineffective advertising is the result of generic messaging to a broad audience.
Choose your most impactful segment & tailor your stuff to them first.
Then rinse & repeat with the other segments.
🔮 #4 A Foundational Understanding of Marketing 101
If you’re going to get outside help with getting more leads or customers…
…you need to know enough to be dangerous.
Sadly, there are a lot of not-so-great businesses out there…
…and 84% of our clients have come to us off the back of a bad experience with another agency.
Having a topline understanding of marketing will mean 2 things:
a) They can’t pull the wool over your eyes.
b) You’ll be able to help drive the relationship & the results.
🔮 #5 A Proper CRM System
If you’re going to invest a lot in getting new leads & customers into your system…
...you also then want to have a highly-effective backend system that helps convert those leads into sales & customers into repeat customers.
There are zillions of systems out there… but we are going ‘all-in’ on GenieAI.
