Last week I went to Sweden.
Stockholm to be precise.
I was blown away by the city.
Beautiful architecture, nature, and people.
What impressed me most there, funnily enough, was this boat I saw…
The fully recovered Vasa Swedish Warship from 1628
This is the Vasa.
The Vasa is a 17th-century Swedish warship - noted for being the most powerfully armed vessel in the world when it launched in 1628.
Or so they thought…
Unfortunately, the Vasa sank on its maiden voyage in the Stockholm harbour.
After traveling only 1300 meters.
That is a serious & expensive fail 😬.
You see, whilst it was expertly crafted…
Fundamentally the ship's design was flawed.
The King had ordered MORE canons to be added to the top deck… which made the Vasa top heavy & unstable.
So even though they had all the resources in Sweden & the best engineers, carpenters & craftsmen working on it…
…it never stood a chance because their strategy & direction was flawed.
The result?
Catastrophic failure.
I took 2 lessons from this story…
Lesson #1 - Strategy is everything.
It doesn’t matter how good your execution is if your strategy is flawed.
The Vasa shows the danger of being attached to strategy.
I’m certain many of the people working on it knew it was doomed…
Being able to revaluate what you’re doing and pivot your strategy based on new information can be the difference between life & death.
(or at least hitting your revenue targets or not…😉)
Lesson #2 - Test, Test, and then Test again
Businesses that will sink like the Vasa, see testing as a waste.
Every test you run (even if it’s a massive flop) results in a new data-point.
A data-point that tells you - did this thing work & make us more money or not?
I believe these data-points are the most valuable things a business can have.
But only if you learn something from it AND it impacts your strategy moving forward.
It’s impossible to gather new & useful data-points to validate or iterate on your marketing strategy if you’re not testing anything.
There’s a direct correlation between the number of things you test & the amount of money you make.
Fortunately for you and me… the emergence of AI has made our ability to test as Entrepreneurs & Marketers 100x easier.
So here’s a list of 9 ideas of simple (yet effective) things that you could test in the next week that will help get you more customers.
Take your current winning ad copy & use AI to rewrite it in 10 different copywriting styles.
Take your current winning ad copy & use AI to rewrite it in 10 different copywriting frameworks.
Ask AI to analyse you’re competitors trust pilot reviews. Then use it’s findings to write you new ads that position you stronger.
Download a report from Google Analytics, upload this into AI & get it to analyse & identify any bottlenecks on your website.
Change the CTA button text on your ads to “Learn More” (this weirdly always seems to work).
Take all of your Landing Page copy & get AI to rewrite it to a 5th grade reading level.
Ask AI to rewrite your copy in a more positive way & to remove any filler or redundant words. (We see positive copy nearly always beats negative).
If you’re running niche targeting on any paid social or search channel… duplicate it, remove the targeting (except for age & geo) and try a broad campaign.
If you’re only running broad campaigns… duplicate it, and try adding some interests or niche keywords (both are still working well for us… 😅)
