Two things are hot on my mind right nowā€¦

  1. Most businesses donā€™t have bad leadsā€¦ they have cr*p follow up.

The gods honest truth is generating leads is the simplest itā€™s EVER been.

But following up with them PROPERLY is still hardā€¦

ā€¦and therefore a big opportunity for those willing to do the work.

I wrote a post on LinkedIn about three simple things you can do to follow up better than 97% of your market.

Also dropping a YouTube video on it this week.

  1. I want to spend more time testing video hooks on Meta Ads.

This came out as a bit of a reflection on some of our best campaigns of last year.

When I looked at the hundreds of experiments that we ranā€¦

ā€¦the ones that delivered the biggest order of magnitude changes - I.e not a 10% or 20% upliftā€¦. but 200-300% - were changes to the hooks.

I mean, it makes perfect sense.

The hook is the first 3-10 seconds of a video.

It is responsible for grabbing someoneā€™s attention.

Which arguably makes it the most important part.

Nothing else matters in your funnel if they donā€™t make it past the hook in your ads.

Soā€¦ hereā€™s how we are testing dozens of new video ad hooks very single weekā€¦ šŸ‘‡

How to Rapid Fire Test Dozens of New Hooks Every Single Week

  1. Create your hooks

  2. Film your hooks

  3. Add your hooks to a proven video creative

  4. Test on Meta with at least 2000 impressions

  5. Identify and analyse winners

  6. Rinse and repeat

Most people will tell you that your hook should immediately call out to the target audienceā€¦

E.g Attention Business owners

And whilst they are kinda rightā€¦

ā€¦I prefer a different type of hook.

I call it the ā€˜Who and Whyā€™ hook.

  • You immediately explain who you are.

  • Then share immediate proof and evidence to give a reason why anyone should listen to anything you say.

E.g Iā€™m Elliott Botterill

And then 2024 I spent Ā£9 million on advertising and generated Ā£74 million in revenue for our clients.

Itā€™s a little counter to common marketing knowledge, but in 2024 ALL of our data showed this was a consistent top performer.

So create a different versions of this using:

  • different backgrounds

  • different evidence

  1. Film your hooks

Keep this simpleā€¦

  • Selfie style

  • Or at your desk

  • Or someone filming you walking

Just be well lit and please have great audio.

  1. Add the hooks to a proven video creative

Ideally you have a video ad that already works wellā€¦ so we can take the middle and end of it and simply add all of your hooks to the front.

This means you can get them edited quickly & easily.

  1. Test on Meta with at least 2000 impressions

  • We do this by setting up custom rules.

  • This controls the spend and make sure each ad gets tested quickly.

  • It also limits the total budget that we spend on testing new ideas where the majority wonā€™t work.

  1. Identify and analyse the winners

Identify the winners based on Thumbstop Rate.

Create this is a custom metric in Meta:

Three second video views / impressions

It directly measures the percentage of people that actually stopped and watched the hook

It should be at least 30%.

Once youā€™ve got your winnerā€¦ then analyse why you think it worked.

Youā€™ll normally find some patterns that emerge, which you then continue to use in the creation of new hooks.

  1. Rinse and repeat

I think youā€™ll be genuinely surprised at the impact doing this once or twice will have on your resultā€¦
